International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change

The International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change (IYSECC), organized completely by Chinese students and young professionals, is the first ever global youth conference in China focusing on energy and climate change issues. IYSECC aims to raise awareness internationally about the urgency of addressing climate change, encourage environmental student activism, and promote broader international cooperation. It is part of the Energy Crossroads 2009 Global Summit Series.

As a foundation, the summit will provide the participants with a full-range perspective of issues concerning China's energy and climate challenge. It will promote understanding of the current efforts and progress made by China in climate change, renewable development, energy conservation, and emission reduction. It will help participants become fluent in the complexity and diversity of existing problems and the prospect of multiple solutions. The summit will delve into the strategic roles of government, private sectors, academia, media, NGOs, educational institutions, and students themselves in this environmental challenge. Most importantly, the summit will address the enormous opportunities that are inherent in the serious problem of climate change, with the goal of enabling and inspiring conference participants to become the future policy-makers, entrepreneurs, activists, and researchers of the world.

The IYSECC will also pass the World Energy and Climate Action Network Youth Declaration (WECAN), which mobilizes the young generation to play an active role in fostering cooperation at the local, national, regional, and global levels and strive for a low-carbon, high efficient, clean, and sustainable future.
